The state of fusion is a sad one, with ITER fundings converging to zero (slightly exaggerated) while energy companies earnings converge to 10-digit numbers.

The world financial system is obviously broken, but nobody cares.

if the heat is going to boil water to dry steam to drive turbines to push wires past magnets and you don't capture the heat cooling the steam back down the theoretical maximum efficiency is 40%!!!!

Consider that if the heat is going to boil water to dry steam to drive turbines to push wires past magnets and you don't capture the heat cooling the steam back down the theoretical maximum efficiency is 40%!!!!

So fusion is no better for Steam Age technology, and, the trouble with co-generating to capture the waste heat means you must use thermal fluids and distribute the heat, costly so never done.

Still not a requirement for brand-new power plants using steam so fusion will also waste this heat directly into the world at the rate of two watts of waste heat for every watt on the wire if done this way, key issue the waste heat of condensation in the conversation never brought up.
