For beginners, it's too dense, technical and boring. As a response, my lecturer authored Software Architecture Primer (http://www.amazon.com/Software-Architecture-Primer-John-Reekie/dp/0646458418) which is pretty much my bible for architectural design and rapid prototyping. Quality attributes are am interesting concept that every developer ought to understand. SEI has lots of great books.
