When you decide that TDD is a good thing, expect it to take a year or more to get half way decent at it. If you just set that expectation up front, you'll be fine. If you get it before then, good for you. It has taken me awhile (started in 2005)and I still don't consider myself "there"...and I came into the game knowing and using the SOLID principles for many years. I have to say that learning ReSharper made TDD much more accessible for me.

Hey now, let's keep it professional here. Jimmy's a nice guy and all and this is a good post. I'm sure he's not perfect, but c'mon, no one deserves over two asterisks-worth of asterisking yourself -- even the worst among us. Three asterisks is just over the top abusive.

@Paul

I forgot tip #11 - pair programming. We always pair with new people, whether it's contractors or full-timers. It's the best knowledge-transfer method out there.

Then we implement a rule - no code can be checked in not done TDD. It's worked so far. In an existing team, it'll be a little different.

I started the post after reading Roy's article.

I know that my post was not the intention of his but part of me was playing devil's advocate. I wanted to see what came back.

Some of the calls that came back were ones that depress me about ALT.NET.

I was saying I need to work with contractors who did not know TDD.

I don't think it is anyone's fault if they have not worked in a TDD environment. It is not the norm in .NET and certainly not where I am.

But I got responses to the post like "sack them".

I really should not have replied.
